Aloe Lodge

Aloe Lodge is an off-the-grid retreat on Grootfontein Private Nature Reserve, accommodating 6 guests in 3 bedrooms with king-size beds and en-suite gas showers. It features a full kitchen with a stove, a private splash pool, cargo net with mountain views, and Wi-Fi. A high clearance vehicle is necessary to access Aloe Lodge.

THE LODGE

High quality finishes compliment this classic thatch and stone lodge, tucked between 2 rocky hills with magnificent views. You can expect sightings of Kudu, Mountain Reedbuck, Zebra, Klipspringer and resident Black Eagles on the reserve.

LIVING

Guests can unwind in the private rock splash pool while enjoying mountain views or enjoy stargazing from the cargo net. Gather around the boma or enjoy a refreshing outdoor shower. This lodge is your front-row seat to the Waterberg mountains, a completely private lodge immersed in nature.

Warm water is provided via a gas geyser, and Wi-Fi is available.The kitchen is well equipped with a gas fridge/freezer combo, gas hob and gas kettle.

THE AREA

An authentic bush experience that harmonizes comfort, nature, and sustainability on a private family-run nature reserve. Grootfontein Private Reserve is located 3 hours from Gauteng in the beautiful Limpopo Province, near the malaria free eco-tourism town of Thabazimbi, South Africa.

Here you will find tranquility and a pristine, untouched 600 hectares of Bushveld landscape. Home to 200+ species of birds, trees and a range of animals including Kudu, Zebra, Giraffe, Impala, Blue Wildebeast, Nyala, Bushbuck, Warthog, reptiles and Leopard.​​

GOOD TO KNOW

Ideal for couples only for a romantic getaway as well as small families.

High clearance vehicles are recommended. A pickup can be arranged from the main gate at an additional cost of R200. 

Located 2.5 hours from Pretoria.

Well behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement. The lodge is not fenced in.

First load of wood is free. R70 charged for extra wheelbarrow loads thereafter. Payments can be settled via cash / eft.

Kitchen basics including salt, pepper, tea, coffee & sugar are provided. 

Housekeeping is not charged additionally. Our staff will come around to do dishes and replace fire wood. Tips are always appreciated should you wish to tip.

Off-grid escape, this unit operates entirely on solar power. There are no air conditioners or microwaves in the lodge; however, fans are provided for your comfort. To protect our solar system, we kindly ask that you do not use hairdryers, electric blankets, hair straighteners, or any appliances with heating elements. These items can cause significant damage to the solar batteries.

OUR RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCES

On the farm: 

Hiking - The 7.5km KUDU ROUTE hugs the foot of the mountain and gives you a good workout and appreciation for our slice of the famous Bushveld. For the more energetic you can hike our mountainous 6-11 km BLACK EAGLE ROUTE and enjoy the panoramic views towards Botswana and the Waterberg.

Mountain Biking - Bring your mountain bike with you. Enjoy the 7.5km KUDU ROUTE which hugs the foot of the mountain and gives you a good workout and appreciation for our slice of the famous Bushveld.

Picnics - Bring along some snacks and spend a lazy afternoon at Camp Serengeti or Camp Marula or next to Chisimi dam. Expect sightings of Kudu, Mountain Reedbuck, Zebra, Klipspringer and resident Black Eagles.

Sundowner Game Drive - The route passes through landmarks on the farm and a sundowner stop on Mount Mooi overlooking the great flats towards Botswana and the Waterberg biosphere. Light refreshments provided and own coolerbox allowed.
