A secluded, off-grid eco-sanctuary set along the unspoiled banks of the Olifants River in the Cederberg, Western Cape. The cabins elevated position means you are spoilt with views from every angle.

This multi-dimensional cabin offers ample space for relaxation and peace, the partially covered wrap around deck offers a outdoor furniture, a built in braai, a cargo net and sun loungers. Stairs lead down to a protected boma area with a private wood fired hot tub.

The semi open-plan interiors are separated by a two-way wood burning fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped for a very comfortable self-catering experience and includes appliances such as a fridge/freezer, 2-plate gas stove, toaster, coffee machine and kettle. 

The generous bedroom has gorgeous mountain views with a freestanding bath tub and separate shower.

Additional touches like a coffee machine, binoculars, and a birdwatching book enhance your stay, while solar-powered energy ensures a sustainable footprint. Guests can also enjoy river access and bring pets along by prior arrangement.

THE AREA

Nestled at the foot of the majestic Cederberg Mountain range, just over two hours from Cape Town, Clanwilliam is a historic town rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. Known as the only place in the world where rooibos tea is cultivated, it also boasts a reputation for locally crafted veldskoens (leather shoes). As one of South Africa’s ten oldest towns, Clanwilliam features a charming town centre with seven national monuments, including Jan Disselsvalleij’s original farmhouse, the old jail-turned-museum, and a 1820 Settler's house.

Cultural experiences include the Clanwilliam Living Landscape Project's guided Bushman rock art trail, while seasonal attractions like the Wild Flower Show in August/September, wine tasting at the Cederberg Wine Cellar, and water sports at Clanwilliam and Bulshoek Dams draw visitors year-round. Art lovers can explore local talent at Die Kunshuis gallery, and a scenic drive to the nearby Moravian mission village of Wuppertal reveals a quaint community seemingly untouched by time.

This cabin is off the beaten path and doesn’t have a formal street address. GPS Coordinates: -31.985925, 18.778472. A WhatsApp pin will be sent prior to your arrival.

A single-lane dirt load provides accessibility to the cabin, a SUV or high-clearance vehicle is advised. 

Well-behaved pets are welcome by prior-arrangement! Please bring your own pet bedding. A pet fee of R250 per stay applies.

Stock up on food and supplies before heading out, as shops are limited nearby.

WiFi is available. 

Firewood is provided. 

This is not a child friendly escape, but babies in camp cots are welcome. 

Bring your hiking gear, there are plenty of routes on your doorstep.

The boat can be booked at R1000 a day.

The cabin is 30 km from Clanwilliam.
