Boomhuis Hideaway

Elevated amongst the evergreen whispering trees and ferns, you will find the romantic Boomhuis gazing upon the Outeniqua Mountains. With vast windows hovering over the forest, this one-bedroom studio is intentionally designed for a renewed sense of undisturbed meaning and reconnection.

THE CABIN

Boomhuis is a mere 15 minutes from George Airport, but you will feel as though you are miles away from civilization as you are surrounded by birdsong, fresh mountain air and the sound of the nearby stream.

This luxurious and private stay is an off-grid getaway, it uses solar energy, gas and borehole water. There are a handful of little paths, which you can meander along on the farm. The owners favourite path winds along the Modder River, through the indigenous forest and ends up at a waterfall and a freshwater pool.

LIVING 

The semi open-plan layout is complimented by a central double-sided wood burning fireplace. The kitchen is set behind the comfortable lounge and is well equipped with a fridge/freezer, 2-plate gas hob, microwave, stovetop kettle and all cutlery and crockery needed.

Outside, the elevated deck boasts a wood fired hot tub, chairs for lounging and a built in braai. Walk down the stairs to the ground level fire pit to enjoy a roaring bon fire and stargazing. 

THE AREA

The farm offers a few walks along the river and you are welcome to wander about, but please be wary of the buffalo and do not walk near them. They are wild animals and extremely dangerous, no matter how docile they may seem. We will advise you which camps the buffalo are currently in when you arrive, so that you know where it is safe to walk.

Guests can enjoy a lovely hike along the Modder River that leads you to a waterfall and freshwater cool pool which you can take a dip in if you are brave! Those who would like to enjoy longer hiking trails more information to guide you which routes to take can be provided. There are many stunning trails in the area that traverses the Outeniqua mountain range. Mountain bikers can cycle on the nearby farm roads and even tackle the Montague Pass. Routes in the area can be provided on request. 

GOOD TO KNOW 

Consistent complimentary WiFi, cellphone signal is limited.

A higher clearance vehicle is recommended when travelling to the Boomhuis. There are low-water bridges and farm roads, which are often muddy and always bumpy, to navigate to reach the cabin.

Kitchen basics are provided, including oil, salt & pepper, braai salt, tea, ground coffee and sugar. 

3 bags of firewood and matches are provided. 

A complimentary welcome pack is left at the house on arrival, this consists of six eggs from the farm chickens, a bottle of homemade piquante peppers and a jar of farm-baked rusks. 

Bathroom amenities are provided.

The George Airport is 15 minutes away from Boomhuis.

HOUSE RULES

Please close all windows and doors when not inside the unit as there are many monkeys and baboons in the area that will take advantage of whatever is left out.

Kindly don't feed the wildlife and please do not pick any plants. 

No pets are allowed. 

Please do not smoke inside the house and avoid loud music.
